ecologist and photograper

Photography

Background: I specialize in photography projects focused at the intersection of science, natural history, and conservation. This has taken me from assignment work with National Geographic (Gelada Monkeys Feature and Proof, Conservation Drones, Northernmost Flower) to freelance contracts with the BBC Natural History Unit, and having photos and/or video published in Wired, GEO, The Atlantic, Netflix, and numerous news outlets.

Talks: I deliver photo talks on wildlife and science to live audiences spanning 5 to 10,000+ people, from classrooms to highly produced main stages. Past talks includes featured presentations at National Geographic Headquarters in Washington DC (Explorer’s Festival and Nat Geo Nights), the Telluride Mountain Film Festival, the Northern Ireland Science Festival, Photofest in San Miguel, Mexico, the Natural History Museum of Denmark, and being the plenary speaker at the 2024 ESRI User Conference in San Diego. I’m also just as committed to find ways to engage with educators and communities, exchanging stories with students, interested groups or retirees! Reach out to me here for more details on arranging a talk.

Books: My first book is out! World From Above, released by National Geographic, is a compilation of images I curated along with personal and scientific narratives that explores perspective, geography, pattern, and ingenuity by gazing at the world ‘from above’. It is available online and at bookstores worldwide.

Honors and Galleries: My photo essay on gelada monkeys was the Grand Prize winner of the Banff Mountain Film - Mountain Photo Essay contest, and my work as also been awarded category prizes and honorable mentions at Por el Planeta, Mexico City, and various science photography events. In 2018 I returned as a judge for the Banff Mountain Film - Mountain Photo Essay Competition. My photos have also been shown at Visa pour l'image: International Festival of Photojournalism in Perpignan, France, the Telluride Mountain Film Festival, The Trento Science Museum. I’ve also co-produced an award winning extended reality (XR) experiences exploring climate change impacts on Qikiqtaruk-Herschel Island in Arctic Canada, with support from collaboration grants from the National geographic Society and Meridian Treehouse.
